One of the ways you can put your CNC (computer numerical control) router to good use is to make a picture frame with it. Designing the frame

Start by designing the frame you would like to make. Essentially you’ll need to route the profile by using one of the software for CNC routing to design the frame of the profile.

Using the CNC router

Next, set the wood dimensions in the CNC. Cut the wood to your desired size. The wood should be larger than the size of the picture you intend to frame. Mark the wood for routing with a square. Remember to turn the CNC router on or off manually.

Examine the routed pieces for any errors. If there are any, you can sand down some of the wood before trying again. You should aim at making a tight fitting frame without splitting any pieces. In order to achieve this, try routing more material away until any gaps or loose corners have been eliminated. The frame may require some sanding before it is finished.

·        Assemble all the materials you need, and proceed to join each side of the frame.

·        Line up the right angles with the studio joiner and secure them with V-nails. Use your chosen wood dye or paint to finish the work.

·        You can buy a ready- made mount board if you are using standard size. In the alternative, cut your mount board to size and cut out an opening.

·        You will also need a backing board with no opening in the same size.

·        Lastly, insert your glass or acrylic followed by your mount board, then your artwork or picture and then your backboard.
